Ask for evidence before buying.
| Check | Ask for |
|---|---|
| Applicable requirements | The UK conformity information for the exact model and version |
| Registration input | Instructions for entering and validating your CAA-issued string |
| Installation | Mounting, power and antenna instructions for your aircraft |
| Broadcast | Protocol details, supported data and status/error indications |
| Ongoing support | Firmware, fault diagnosis and replacement arrangements |
The UK regulatory library describes requirements for direct RID add-ons, including registration-string validation, a unique serial number, periodic broadcasts and manufacturer instructions. Use the actual requirements below when checking a supplier’s claims.
Plan the complete installation.
Review added mass, secure attachment, balance, power endurance and any effect on the aircraft’s permitted configuration. A loose module or an untested power supply creates a new problem even if the radio transmits.
Our practical acceptance check
Record the model, serial number, firmware and installation instructions. Follow the manufacturer’s ground checks and resolve errors before relying on the installation. A receiver observation can help with diagnosis; it does not replace conformity evidence or the required pre-flight checks.
